You've booked your bridal appointment. The countdown is on, and you're probably wondering, "Is there anything I should do before I go?"

The answer is yes! While finding your dream dress should be fun and stress free, a little preparation can make your experience even more enjoyable.

Here are our top tips to help you get the most out of your very first wedding dress shopping appointment.

1. Save Inspiration, Not Expectations

Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok are wonderful places to gather inspiration, but try not to become attached to one specific dress.

Instead, pay attention to what you consistently save. Do you love clean satin? Romantic lace? Long sleeves? Basque waists? These details help your stylist understand your vision while still allowing room to surprise you with gowns you may never have picked for yourself.

Many brides end up saying yes to a dress that wasn't even on their Pinterest board!

2. Bring Your "Yes" People

One of the biggest mistakes brides make is leaving an important decision maker at home.

If there is someone whose opinion you absolutely need before purchasing your gown, bring them to your appointment if possible. If they can't attend, plan ahead and be ready to FaceTime them when you find "the one."

There's nothing more heartbreaking than falling in love with a dress, only to leave without ordering because you still need someone else's approval.

3. Yes... You Really Need to Wear Underwear! 😂

It sounds funny, but we promise this deserves a reminder.

You'll be changing in and out of several wedding gowns, so please don't forget your underwear! Your stylist will appreciate it, and you'll feel much more comfortable throughout your appointment.

4. Bring Any Shapewear You Already Own

Already have shapewear sitting in your dresser? Bring it along!

But here's our biggest piece of advice...

Don't go shopping for new shapewear before your bridal appointment.

Every wedding dress fits differently. Some gowns look beautiful without shapewear, while others work best with a very specific style or cut. Once you've found your dress, we'll recommend exactly what works best for your gown so you don't waste money on something you won't end up wearing.

5. Wear Light Makeup

A little makeup is perfectly fine, but try to avoid heavy foundation, self tanner, or dark lipstick.

Wedding gowns are delicate, and keeping makeup minimal helps protect the dresses while you're trying them on.

6. Wear Easy to Change Clothing

You'll likely try on several gowns during your appointment.

Wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to slip on and off makes changing quicker, easier, and keeps your appointment flowing smoothly.

7. Trust Your Bridal Stylist

Your consultant isn't there to sell you a dress. They're there to help you find your dress.

They've dressed hundreds of brides and know which silhouettes, fabrics, and designers will complement your body, wedding venue, and vision.

Sometimes the gown you never would have chosen is the one that leaves everyone crying happy tears.

8. Keep an Open Mind

It's completely normal to walk in wanting one style and leave loving something completely different.

Don't say no to trying on a gown just because it's different than what you've imagined. Your dream dress may surprise you.

9. Don't Worry About the Number on the Tag

Bridal sizing is very different from everyday clothing.

Most brides wear a bridal size that's larger than their regular clothes, and that's completely normal.

The only number that matters is how confident and beautiful you feel when you look in the mirror.

10. Enjoy the Experience

Wedding dress shopping is about so much more than buying a dress.

It's about making memories with the people you love, celebrating your engagement, and finding the gown you'll walk down the aisle in.

Take photos, laugh, soak in every moment, and remember that this is one of the most exciting parts of your wedding journey.
